Having fun at the NHS Homecoming Carnival
Newark High School hosted its annual Homecoming Carnival during lunch for students the day of the homecoming game. Students had fun with a variety of activities, including throwing pies in teachers' faces, jousting, archery, water balloons and more. NCS teams with Licking County Library to Grow Early Learners
Newark City Schools and the Licking County Library are teaming up to offer a program for parents of young children, ages birth to 5. The Growing Early Learners program is hosting a “Parents Turn to Learn” event from 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15, at the library.
Parents will have the opportunity to help their young children build early reading skills, with guidance from district teachers and staff members.
Free books and materials will be offered to the first 30 families to attend. The event will also include a raffle for gift cards, as well as entrance to a raffle for a Kindle giveaway at the final event in March.
NCS joins community in #PinkNewark Day
On Wednesday, Oct. 7, The Newark Advocate asked the community to wear pink to spread awareness for Breast Cancer prevention. Many schools, students and staff in the district have joined in. We are sharing photos throughout the day on Twitter, @Newark_Schools, and with the hashtag #PinkNewark. 
Dinner and a Concert: Newark Orchestra's Annual Spaghetti Dinner on Oct. 22
The annual Newark Orchestra Spaghetti Dinner and Concert will begin at 6 p.m. on Thurs., Oct. 22, in the Newark High School Commons. The evening will feature performances from every middle and high school orchestra in the auditorium. The cost for the evening is: $10 for adult dinner and performance; $8 for student dinner and performance; or $5 for performance only. Please order tickets through any orchestra student, or contact Director Chris Lape at 740-670-7443.

Newark Youth Softball presents Daddy-Daughter Dance
It’s almost time for another special father-daughter night at Newark High School.
The 2015 Daddy-Daughter Dance, presented by Newark Youth Softball, will take place from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Oct. 24 in the Newark High School Auxiliary Gym. Tickets cost $12 per pair, plus $4 for each additional daughter. All dads, grandpas, uncles and male role models are welcome to attend. Attendees are invited to dress up or dress down. Please contact Heidi Hewitt at 740-405-7198 with questions or to buy tickets in advance.
