Rear Admiral Roy Kelley to speak at NHS graduation
United States Navy Rear Admiral Roy Kelley is being honored as the recipient of the Alumni Citizenship Award during the 2018 Newark High School Commencement Ceremony on May 26. Kelley is a 1980 graduate of Newark High School.

Kelley was promoted in October 2017 to commander of the Naval Air Force Atlantic.

Following his high school career, Kelley received a Bachelor of Science in Business from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, Oklahoma.

Register now for 2018 STEM Camp
Register now for 2018 STEM Camp
Newark City Schools will be having a weeklong free STEM Camp for NCS entering grades 3-12 from June 18-22 at Newark High School. At this camp, students will have the opportunity to explore Coding (using Scratch to build a game), Robotics (coding robots to investigate and solve tasks), Architecture (using Sketch Up to design and build) or Biomedical Engineering (using 3D printing to solve problems and improve lives). Registration forms are available at all NCS buildings and are due back to your principal by May 18. Every month, Newark City Schools honors 28 students in grades 4 through 12 in each of our buildings as Citizens of the Month. Students are chosen not only for their work inside the classroom, but also their leadership outside the classroom. Thank you to the Wilson Middle School Band for performing during the lunch. NCS receives Audit Award with Distinction
NCS receives Audit Award with Distinction
The Newark City School District has received the Auditor of State Award with Distinction, based on the district’s accurate record keeping and clean financial reports. Only 5 percent of Ohio’s 6,000 public entities receive the award. A representative from the Ohio Auditor’s Office presented the award to District Treasurer Julio Valladares during the April 2018 regular Board of Education meeting. The award is given to entities that file a Comprehensive Annual Financial Report and receive a “clean” audit.
“This could not have happened without the hard work, day in and out, of the staff in the treasurer’s department,” Valladares said.
