2014-15 Calendar Now Available

The 2014-15 school year calendar has now been approved by the Board of Education. Find the full calendar at this link, or under Calendar at the top navigation bar. The school year will begin for students on August 20 and end on May 28. Spring break has been moved back a week, to the week of March 30 due to the state testing schedule.

Register Now for Power of Positive Parenting Seminar on May 8

The Power of Positive Parenting Triple P seminar will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on May 8 at the YMCA in the John and Christine Warner Family Center. The seminar equips parents to create an encouraging learning environment, have reasonable expecattions for kids and helps kids take responsibility for their actions. 3rd Annual Summer Wrestling Camp features NCAA coaches, national champions

The Newark Wildcat wrestling program is very excited to announce the 3rd Annual Newark Summer Wrestling Technique and Competition Camp to be held at Wilson Middle School on 6/15-6/21. Click the link for the flier: Newark Wrestling Camp 2014

This year's camp will feature two NCAA Division 1 Head Coaches (Tom Ryan-The Ohio State University and Scott Goodale-Rutgers University), 2 national champions (Logan Stieber-3x Div. 1 NCAA Champion and Nick Spencer 1x Div.2 NCAA Champion), and 2x Div. 1 All-American and 2011 Central District Coach of the Year (Mark Marinelli).

Sign up for summer girls basketball camps now

It's time to sign up now for summer girls basketball camp for girls entering grades 2 through 8 next year. Students entering middle school grades will have camp on June 4, 5, 6 and 9 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Newark High School gym. More information and a registration form is here. This camp costs $60 per camper. The elementary camp will be from June 10 through 13, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the NHS gym. The cost is $45 per camper, and a registration form is available here.

All-City Orchestra Concert Tonight at 7

Orchestra students from across the district will perform at 7 p.m. today at the Newark High School orchestra for the All-City Orchestra Concert. The program is bringing students from each middle school together for grade-level performances, and the high school string orchestra and Sinfonia will also be performing. The orchestra program has also invited all fifth grade students to a pizza party before the concert at 6 p.m. Sixth grade orchestra students will host the pizza party, and the fifth graders will have a chance to play the instruments. Students interested in the pizza party can sign up here.

NCS raises $9,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters

Teams from nine Newark City Schools buildings collected more than $9,000 for the March Bowl for Kids fundraiser to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Licking and Perry County. The fundraiser was held on March 15 at Park Lanes in Heath, and saw more than $100,000 collected in total. Newark City Schools is proud to play a part in raising money for the organization.

Carson Elementary led all participating educational institutions in raising money for the event, with $3,300 raised. The other NCS buildings that participated are: Ben Franklin, Cherry Valley, John Clem, McGuffey, Heritage, Wilson and the Administrative Service Center. Thank you to all employees who donated their money and time, and to Big Brothers Big Sisters for their support of Newark children.

In an effort to reach our community in a new way, Newark City Schools is launching a podcast. What, exactly, is a podcast? At the most basic level, it is a multimedia digital file made available through the Internet. Think of our podcast as an Internet radio show, with district news and stories delivered on a semi-weekly basis. Listen to the first episode through iTunes, or stream it below. The Newark Wildcat Basketball Cat Camp is now accepting registration for summer sessions in June for boys beginning in 1st grade. The camp provides the foundation for young players to develop basketball skills, and welcomes children of all talent levels. OAA Dates now set for Newark City Schools
Newark City Schools' Ohio Achievement Assessment (OAA) dates have been adjusted due to the large amount of days missed due to the weather this year. The State of Ohio extending the testing window to allow districts more time to prepare for the tests. We will be giving the reading test on April 29; Math on May 1; and Science on May 6. This is for both the elementary and middle school tests.

Add additional phone numbers, emails to all-call system Parents can now add up to ten phone numbers and five email addresses to the Blackboard Connect system through MyConnect. Find registration instructions here, and visit the Parent Portal here. You must have your student's ID number handy, as well as the main contact number registered with your child's school. If you need to update that main number, please contact your child's school.
