Five NHS students qualify for OMEA Regional Orchestra
NHS regional orchestra qualifiers: Aiden Nease, Noel Zarnosky, William Chiacchira, Summer Davis, Amonie Akens
Five members of the Newark High School orchestra program were chosen to be part of the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) East Central Region Orchestra this fall. The students competed against other students from 21 counties in East Central Ohio by submitting solo recordings of themselves. The regional orchestra will rehearse for two full days prior to a public concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24, at Granville High School. The students who qualified from Newark are:
  • Aiden Nease, senior violin
  • Noel Zarnosky, junior viola
  • William Chiacchira, sophomore viola
  • Summer Davis, senior viola
  • Amonie Akens, senior string bass

The guest conductor for this year's regional orchestra is Felipe Morales-Torres, who is a conductor with the Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestras, as well as the orchestra director at Anderson High School in the Forest Hills School District.

The Newark High School orchestra program is directed by Ashley Rudd. This is the second consecutive year that NHS students have qualified for the regional orchestra.
