The all-city orchestra concert is set for 7 p.m. Thursday at Heath High School, 300 Licking View Dr. A total of 250 middle school and orchestra students will perform a variety of music, from classic to pop.   
Students in the Newark High School Acting Ensemble class have just a few rehearsals left before Lockdown takes center stage at 7:30 p.m. May 25, 26 at the Black Box Theatre. It is located in the new addition of the Newark High School auditorium.
The 150 cadets of the Newark High School JROTC unit are feeling pretty proud. For the second consecutive year, the unit was presented with the Distinguished Award.
There will be lots of pomp and circumstance as the class of 2012 takes center stage at the 10 a.m.graduation ceremony Saturday, June 2 at White Field. School officials have moved the ceremony to a different day and time this year, so please make note of the changes.

The eighth graders at Wilson Middle School stepped out of their teenage world and into that of an adult. They got a taste of what it’s like to go grocery shopping for an entire family, pay the mortgage and budget for childcare.   
Calling all girls in grades 4-8 for softball camp. This year’s camp is set for 6-8 p.m. May 21-24 at Newark High School.
Looking for a graduation gift? Here’s a unique idea. How about purchasing a brick for your 2012 graduate with their name on it? The bricks are for sale at Newark High School or John Clem Elementary.
In spite of prevention efforts, new cases of some of the most common sexually transmitted diseases are on the rise, according to the Licking County Health Department. Currently, county health officials are collaborating with local school districts and conducting a survey of middle school parents regarding this issue.
All kinds of student art will be on display from 5-7p.m. Tuesday at Newark High School. Come and take a look around and get a glimpse of what our students have been creating throughout the school year.
Summer school classes will be available to high school students who need to repeat a course. The first session is scheduled for June 11 – June 29, with the second session July 5 – July 27. Deadline to register is June 8 and July 3, respectively.
Summer school classes for middle school students are set for July 5 - 27.
Summer is just around the corner and so is soccer camp. Registration is going on now for the June 18-22 camp at the Evans Complex. Boys and girls who will be entering grades three through eight can participate.

The first days of the 2012-2013 academic year will look like this for Newark High School students. Only freshmen will report to school on Aug. 22. On Aug.23, classes will be in session for all high school students in grades 9-12.
Transferring from one Newark school to another will not be allowed next school year. There is one exception, however.
The school district took a leap forward by moving from an Effective to Excellent rating, according to the state report card results released by the Ohio Department of Education. This is the first time the district hit the Excellent mark.
